Ways of Seeing

I finished reading Love by Design by Nora Roberts and I wasn't impressed, I have though, just read Vision in White by Nora Roberts, book one in the bride quartet series, which was free from Iceland Food Store, and thought it was great.
I am now reading Ways of Seeing by John Berger it consists of seven numbered essays. It raises questions about hidden ideologies in visual images.
My husband a photographer for over 20 years is studying for a degree in Photography and this is one off the recommended reading list. Hopefully it won't be too hard going, as I myself have a background in Art and Design I am hoping it will be very interesting....x

FIL World Lacrosse Championships Manchester

It has been an exciting time in Manchester this last few weeks, we have had the FIL World Lacrosse Championships held here at the Manchester University sports ground, The Firs from the 15th to the 24th of July with 30 nations competing for the title including Argentina, Bermuda, Canada, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Scotland, Spain, USA and Wales to name a few.

My family took part in the games themselves on the week before the games began there was a Tournament for all the local lacrosse teams to go to the Firs and compete together at this amazing venue. The boys are members of Mellor Lacrosse club and play for the Mellor Under 12's team. It was a very exciting day,
unfortunately they did not win the tournament but had lots of
fun trying, the veentual winners being the Sheffield Steelers..

On Saturday 17th July my family and I attended a full day of the Lacrosse Tournament we went to watch England play Australia which was a very close game finishing at the whistle 8-8 and stretching into extra time where Australia beat England by 12-8. We also saw USA v Canada two great Lacrosse teams.

Unfortunately we never got to see the Iroquois Nationals Lacrosse team which I was really looking forward to seeing as lacrosse was created by indigenous North Americans and later adopted by European Colonial cultures, and are ranked number 4 in the world. England refused them entry because
they travel on their traditional papers (as they have done for 2 decades) they refuse to use American or Canadian papers on a point of principle, but because of heightened security fears this has caused immigration officials to be more vigilant and strict, even though America had given them a one time waiver, they were refused entry.

The World Champion Lacrosse Team 2010 is USA beating Canada in a 12-10 Victory!!!!......x

Wall Murals

A couple more wall murals the top one based on Graffiti, the lower one based on Japanese Manga. Graffiti ( according to Wikipedia) is the name for images or lettering, scratched, scrawled, painted or marked in any manner on property. Graffiti is any type of public markings that may appear in the forms of simple written words to elaborate wall paintings. Graffiti has existed since ancient times, with examples dating back to Ancient Greece and the roman empire. In modern times spray paint, normal paint and markers have become the most common used materials.
In this case Acrylic paint was used, and my son uses spray cans for spraying designs on board in the garden.
In the case of Japanese Manga (again according to Wikipedia) consists of comic and print cartoons and conforming to the style developed in Japan in the late 19th century. In their modern form, manga date from shortly after world war 2, but they have a long complex history in earlier japanese art.
My son wanted this mural after seeing a Japanese Manga exhibition 'How Manga took over the World' in 2008 at Urbis gallery in Manchester......x

Party Invitations

Here is one of my favorite party invitations I have made for a Pirate Party. I placed sand and seashells inside the bottle and rolled up the invite and tied it and placed it inside, they were very effective. I even made 2 Pirate ships for the party The Black Pearl and The Interceptor, the children were split into 2 teams and fired rolled up black paper cannon balls at each other....x
